Four things that come standard on every cross-border move.

Full inventory + customs paperwork

We prepare the US Customs Form 3299 (or Canadian B4 for inbound). You sign one form. We handle broker coordination, declared values, and the manifest.

Door-to-door, no transfer between trucks

Same truck from your origin to your destination. We do not transload at the border. The driver who picks up your shipment is the driver who delivers it.

Cargo-liability insured

Standard cargo-liability coverage on every cross-border move. Declared-value upgrade available for high-value items, ask a specialist at quote time.

Assessment by video call

We size your move accurately over a video call, no in-person visit. Walk us through your home on your phone from anywhere in the US, and we build the inventory and quote from there.

How quoting works

One video call. A written quote. No surprises at the border.

We don’t run a generic price calculator on cross-border moves, every home is different. You book a short video-call assessment, walk us through your rooms on your phone, and a moving specialist builds your inventory and sends a quote in writing. Customs Form 3299, broker coordination and border processing are all handled in-house.

Three people who actually crossed the border with us.

“We were moving back to Montreal after years in Florida and dreading the customs side. The team handled the 3299 entirely, did the whole assessment by video call, walked us through what we’d be asked at the border, and crossed at Champlain without a hitch.”

Lisa P. · Naples FL → Montreal · February 2026

“Seattle to Vancouver, one truck, no transload. They sized the whole move on a video call and the written quote held, no surprises. Two-day turnaround, all furniture wrapped, nothing scratched. The driver even called from Pacific Highway with the ETA.”

Brendan O. · Seattle → Vancouver · January 2026

“Chicago to Toronto in March. The other quotes I got either ducked the customs question or wanted a transfer to a Canadian carrier at the border. Motion Transport ran the whole thing themselves, crossed at Windsor, and delivered on schedule. No surprises.”

Things people ask before booking a cross-border move.

What customs paperwork do I have to fill out? +

For US-bound moves, the main document is US Customs Form 3299, a “Declaration for Free Entry of Unaccompanied Articles.” We prepare it from the inventory you give us at quote, send it for your signature, and submit it to the broker. For Canada-bound moves we prepare the equivalent Canadian B4 form. You sign one document. We do the rest.

Do you handle moves from the US into Canada? +

Yes, inbound US-to-Canada moves are our specialty. Our strongest pickup states are Florida, New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia, delivering to our warehousing hubs in Ontario and Quebec. We also run the Pacific corridor from Washington into British Columbia. We prepare the customs Form 3299, cross in one truck with no transfer, and deliver door-to-door. Your assessment is done by video call, no in-person visit needed.

How long does the border crossing typically take? +

With paperwork prepped in advance, most crossings clear in 30 to 90 minutes at the major commercial corridors (Lewiston, Champlain, Pacific Highway, Sweetgrass). We pad the dispatch window for the crossing and call you with the actual ETA once we’re rolling. Expect a longer wait at peak holiday periods or at smaller crossings.

What items can’t I bring across the border? +

The main categories restricted at the US border are firearms (require ATF Form 6), alcohol over personal limits, plants, fresh food, certain medications, and any item with a hidden compartment. Cannabis products cannot cross in either direction, even between legal jurisdictions. Our team will flag anything questionable on your inventory at quote time before it becomes a problem at the border.

What happens if customs holds the truck? +

Holds are rare when paperwork is prepped properly, but they can happen. If customs flags something, the driver stays with the truck while we coordinate with the broker. You’re not charged extra for a routine inspection. If the hold is caused by an item you didn’t disclose at quote (rare), there may be a re-routing or storage cost, your specialist tells you up front exactly what would trigger that.
